Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assumed direct oversight of the state’s tourism sector as part of efforts to elevate it to international standards.
Makinde stated that the step was aimed at eliminating institutional bottlenecks and preventing mistrust in the sector.

‎The governor disclosed this during the second edition of the Oyo State International Tourism Summit 2025, held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, the state capital. The event featured a variety of classical cultural performances by members of Oyo State Cultural groups.

‎Delivering his keynote address, Makinde emphasised that the programme was not merely a celebration of culture but a platform to showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage and highlight the economic potential of tourism. He said Oyo State must fully embrace the sector as a viable business venture.
The governor outlined key executive-level commitments aimed at advancing the tourism sector in Oyo State. These include assuming direct oversight of the sector, establishing a dedicated Tourism Investor Liaison Unit, ensuring transparent communication, and introducing a Fair and Enforceable Tourism Compact.

‎He also revealed that the state is close to finalising a new deal to upgrade Agodi Gardens into an international-standard tourist destination.

‎Several dignitaries also took the stage to unveil visionary plans for various tourist destinations across the state. Highlighted among the showcased sites were Eleye Lake in Ibadan, the Ibadan Cultural Centre, Bower’s Tower, Idere Hills in Idere, and Iyake Lake in Ado Awaye. Makinde later led other dignitaries on a tour of the exhibition grounds.
