Some members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons have paid a hospital visit to Gabriela Salgado, the South African forward who sustained a serious leg injury during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semi-final clash between both teams in Morocco.

Salgado was stretchered off in the 88th minute of Tuesday’s high-tension match after suffering what was later confirmed as a fracture of the mid-shaft of her left leg. The South African Football Association said she underwent successful surgery at the Mohamed VI University Hospital in Casablanca.

According to the federation, Salgado will remain sidelined for the rest of the year as she recovers.

The injury sent shockwaves through both teams, with players visibly distraught as medics attended to the striker. Nigeria eventually won the match 2-1, thanks to a late winner by Gloria Alozie.

On Wednesday, team captain Rasheedat Ajibade led a group of Super Falcons players to visit Salgado at the hospital. During the visit, they presented her with a signed Super Falcons jersey as a gesture of solidarity and support.

Nigeria will now face hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final on Saturday, with hopes high as the team aims for its 10th continental title.
