A forrmer director of a Saskatoon private Christian school in Canada has been found guilty of assaulting students with a weapon.
The man who has been identified as Joshua Olubobokun was accused of using a wooden paddle to hit students when he was the director at Christian Centre Academy for four years starting in 2003 according to the CBC.
The judge who presided over the case, Judge Lisa Watson, said the Crown proved without a reasonable doubt that Olubobokun assaulted the former students of the school.
Former students of the school revealed that they were often accused of misbehaviour, called into the director’s office, told to bend over a desk or chair, and struck multiple times with a wooden paddle.
Some other students said they were bruised from the assault while another said the paddle broke while they were being struck.
When the judge pronounced Olubobokun guilty, former students who were present were elated.
A former student of the school, Caitlin Erickson, described it as a very emotional moment, adding that he and others had waited for so long for Olubobokun to be pronounced guilty.
“To have the justice systems say this wasn’t OK, that’s very validating and healing for everybody.
“Very emotional … it’s been a very long time for us to wait to have our day in court and for justice to play out finally,” said Erickson.
The former student added that the judgement is a win for the former students of the school
