The Federal Ministry of Education has launched the “EDU REVAMP” Communities of Practice (CoPs), a strategic initiative aimed at transforming education delivery and professional collaboration in Nigerian schools.
The launch ceremony, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, marked the beginning of a focused capacity-building workshop for 80 selected teachers and Ministry staff.
Declaring the event open, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, emphasized that the initiative is a milestone in the collective journey to revamp education in Nigeria.
Prof. Ahmad said the CoPs, which fall under the Quality Education and Learning Outcomes Initiative, aim to create learning communities, hubs of shared knowledge, and platforms for sustainable teacher professional development.
She highlighted the synergy between the CoPs and the EDU REVAMP digital platform, which will provide teachers with 21st-century tools, incentivize progress, and reward completed modules.
Ahmad urged teachers to prepare for the digital platform, emphasizing that learning online will come with both knowledge and benefits.
Her words: “The theme of this workshop, ‘Revamping Education through Collaboration, Innovation, and Practice,’ is at the heart of what these Communities of Practice represent. These CoPs are not just groups; they are learning communities, hubs of shared knowledge, and platforms for sustainable teacher professional development.
“Having spent many years both in the classroom and in the field as a Professor of Science Education, I have firsthand understanding of the challenges our teachers face. I deeply value the transformative power of strong professional communities and how Communities of Practice like this enable us to maximize limited resources, especially the invaluable expertise and knowledge of our colleagues, unlocking the full potential of both educators and learners.”
The Minister said the launch is a deliberate step towards education reform, focusing on teachers working in communities of practice.
