In a significant blow to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), two sitting Senators from Osun State — Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi (Osun Central) and Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East) — have announced their resignation from the party, citing long-standing internal crises and irreconcilable national leadership disputes.

In separate letters addressed to their respective ward chairmen, both lawmakers referenced the “irreparable division” and “protracted legal battles” that have plagued the PDP since the 2023 general elections.

The senators stated that the situation has led to entrenched factions and leadership paralysis at the national level, rendering their continued membership untenable.

Senator Fadeyi, who chairs the Senate Committee on Environment, described the situation as “irreconcilable,” lamenting that multiple court cases and counterlitigations had severely undermined party unity over the past three years. “This decision,” he wrote, “was reached after wide consultations with my political associates, family, and friends.”

Senator Fadahunsi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industry and a decorated public servant, echoed the same sentiments. In his resignation letter, he stated: “It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith,” citing the party’s post-election turbulence as the major reason for his departure.

The back-to-back resignations of two high-profile lawmakers from the same state — both holding leadership positions in the National Assembly — signal growing disillusionment within the PDP’s ranks, particularly among its elected representatives.
Their exits may also deepen the party’s internal crisis and cast fresh doubts over its cohesion and readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Observers say the twin resignations represented a loud indictment of the PDP’s national leadership struggles and a clarion call for urgent reconciliation, or risk further haemorrhage of prominent members.

As the PDP continues to grapple with internal challenges, the departure of Senators Fadeyi and Fadahunsi may mark a turning point in Osun State politics, with realignments and political recalibrations likely in the weeks ahead.
