The Ebonyi State Police Command says it arrested 939 suspects linked to various crimes across the state between January and June 2025.

Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Joshua Ukandu, made the disclosure in Abakaliki on Tuesday while providing crime statistics to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Ukandu said the arrests were made during law enforcement operations across the 13 local government areas of the state. Of the 939 suspects, 887 were male and 52 female, with none identified as minors.

“Their offences include minor and major crimes such as murder, suicide, rape, grievous harm, child stealing, cultism, robbery, and housebreaking,” he stated.

He added that other charges involved kidnapping, burglary, false pretence, stealing, arson, unlawful possession of firearms, forgery, breach of public peace, and trafficking in illicit drugs.

While acknowledging the progress made in maintaining public safety, Ukandu noted that personnel faced several challenges during the period but were able to overcome them.

He commended the collaboration between the police and other security agencies in ensuring peace and stability in the state.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, appreciates the synergy between sister security agencies that has helped in sustaining the existing peace in Ebonyi State,” Ukandu said.

He also thanked Governor Francis Nwifuru for the administration’s support to the command in its efforts to curb crime.
