A coalition of opposition parties in Gombe State is preparing for the 2027 general elections, with leaders expressing optimism about their chances of forming a government.

The coalition, which includes parties such as the Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), African Action Congress (AAC), and a section of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), among others, has begun visiting local government areas of the state to mobilise more politicians to join the coalition.

Additionally, the coalition leaders hosted a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday in Gombe to strategise about mobilising more people to join the coalition.

Speaking at the stakeholders’ meeting, former PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election and leader of the Gombe State Coalition Working Group, Mohammed Barde, urged coalition members to mobilise people across the state’s 114 wards to support their cause.

Barde criticised the current APC-led government in Gombe and at the federal level, citing widespread hardship and governance failures.

“The opposition coalition would unite to bring the APC out of power and make life better for the citizens,” he declared.

State SDP chairman, Adamu Modibbo, revealed that the coalition comprises no fewer than 19 political parties, making it a formidable force.

Meanwhile, Adamu Aliyu Danmakka, chairman of the Governorship Candidates Forum, expressed confidence that the opposition parties’ alliance will lead to victory in 2027, noting that the present governor also formed a government through an alliance in 2019.
