A coalition of opposition parties in Gombe State has expressed optimism about unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections through a united political front.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Gombe Coalition Working Group held on Friday, Chairman of the Gombe Governorship Candidates Forum and former African Action Congress (AAC) gubernatorial candidate, Adamu Danmakka, said the alliance, if sustained, could deliver electoral victory.
Danmakka recalled that a similar strategy contributed to the emergence of the current administration in 2019, arguing that a renewed coalition could achieve the same result in 2027.
Also speaking, State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adamu Modibbo, highlighted the breadth of the coalition, which he said includes no fewer than 19 political parties, making it a “formidable political force.”
The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe, Mohammed Jibrin Barde, who is spearheading the coalition effort, urged members to intensify mobilisation across the state’s 114 wards.
Barde criticised the APC-led government at both the state and federal levels, accusing it of implementing policies that have caused hardship among Nigerians. He said the coalition’s goal is to present a viable alternative and restore effective governance.
“The APC has failed to fulfil its campaign promises. It is time for a change that puts the interests of the people first,” he said.
The coalition plans to continue consultations with key stakeholders and broaden its outreach in preparation for the 2027 polls.
