NANS Turkish Zone elects president

Doctoral student of Management Information Systems at Cyprus International University (CIU), Daniel Okpala, has been elected as the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for the Turkish Zone.

Okpala and other elected executive and senate officers, who emerged during the just-concluded 2025 annual elective convention, will steer the affairs of the zone for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The convention was held on Saturday, July 5, at Near East University (NEU) in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). A statement issued yesterday by the new General Secretary, Chibuike Odunze, noted that the convention brought together delegates, chapter union leaders, national stakeholders, and observers from Nigerian student communities across universities in Türkiye and TRNC.

Other elected executive members include Vice President (National), David Okafor; Vice President (External Affairs), Chidiebere Onwuka; Vice President (Special Duties), Mustafa Adamu; and Senate President, Joshua Akinsulore.

Others are Assistant General Secretary, Nuhu Sabo; Financial Secretary, Collins Egheneji; Public Relations Officer, Victory AwhotuAgberia; Director of Travels and Exchange, Deborah Otong; and Director of Sports, Bamidele Alabi.

In his acceptance speech, Okpala promised a grassroots-oriented leadership, vowing to uphold transparency and champion the welfare of Nigerian students in Turkish territories.
