Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has released what he says is documentary evidence supporting his claim that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, emailed him his resume in October 2018 with the intention of being considered as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Omokri said he was forced to share the email after a Peter Obi supporter publicly called him a liar.
He wrote, “My ONLY motive in publishing this evidence is to establish that I did not lie. I would not have considered publishing this email if a Peter Obi surrogate had not called me a liar on a popular podcast.”
According to Omokri, the unsolicited message was sent at 6:13 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018. Peter Obi allegedly expressed that, per instructions from a political figure, he had forwarded his résumé ahead of the official announcement of his selection as Atiku’s running mate on October 12.
Omokri added, “Four days after this email was sent, Peter Obi was announced as Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.”
Omokri further warned: if the email is fake or AI-generated, he challenges Obi to deny it.
He said, “If this email is fake or AI-generated, then I challenge Mr. Obi to deny it, and I will publish even more damning evidence, although it is not my desire to do so. However, even if I am nothing, at least I am a meticulous record keeper.”
While Omokri’s post follows earlier claims that he helped “package Peter Obi as Atiku’s running mate in 2019” neither Obi nor his movement have issued any response at the time of filing this report.
The disclosure has reignited debate over Omokri’s role in the 2019 electoral ticket formation and may prompt further scrutiny depending on responses from Obi or his representatives.
