A charity foundation in Gombe State, Velocity Humanitarian Foundation, has empowered 100 selected women in the state with N50,000 each to start or boost their petty trades and occupations.
Speaking while presenting the donations at Gombe International Hotel, the founder of the foundation, Aliyu Mohammed Kombat, represented by his associate, Adamu Aliyu Ibrahim, said the initiative aimed to provide capital for deserving women to establish or expand their businesses.
He explained that the beneficiaries were selected from all 11 local government areas of the state to ensure widespread impact.
Also speaking, the foundation’s secretary, Malam Safiyanu, said the gesture is part of the foundation’s mission to support less privileged members of society through humanitarian and charitable services.
He revealed that this was the first phase of their business support programme, adding that there were plans to empower youth too in subsequent interventions.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the entrepreneur’s support.
Salamatu Sa’ad from Akko Local Government and Aishatu Aliyu from Gombe Local Government commended Engineer Kombat for the initiative, saying it would greatly benefit them.
On her part, Aliyu, a local food vendor from Tudun Wada community, stated that the N50,000 donation would help her expand her “Awara” business.
