Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appealed to residents to refrain from any act of reprisal against the gruesome murder of Kano indigenes in Makurdi, Benue State.

The governor made the appeal on Wednesday when he paid a condolence visit to Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, a famous Islamic scholar and father of the victims of the attack.

The governor had strongly condemned the brutal killing of the two young men, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, who were attacked at around 11:00 p.m. on Monday by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums and murdered in cold blood without provocation.

Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, describing it as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable,” adding that his administration will ensure those who perpetrated the dastardly act face the wrath of the law.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano. They were innocent, peace-loving citizens whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work in any part of Nigeria,” the Governor said.

While commiserating with the families of the bereaved, the Governor extended sympathy and condolences to prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, for the painful loss.

Governor Yusuf described the loss as not just a tragedy to the families involved, but to Kano State and the entire nation.

Earlier, Governor Yusuf had, last Tuesday, joined the sympathizers and family of the victims and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, to observe the funeral prayer at the National Mosque, Abuja.

He used the occasion to remind the Edo State Government of the need to hasten the compensation process for the families of Hausa victims killed in the recent Uromi attack.

He stressed the importance of justice, fairness, and accountability in maintaining na

tional peace and unity.
