The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) and the Lagos State government have reaffirmed their commitments to fostering a conducive environment for businesses in the state and the nation to grow and thrive.

The commitments were expressed at the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) technical session and town hall meeting organised by PEBEC in Lagos State, yesterday.

Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Bada-Ambrose, who spoke at the event, described Lagos as a state that understands the need to institutionalise reforms and recognises that prosperity cannot be built on potentials alone.

Bada-Ambrose affirmed that Lagos had embraced the SABER framework as a transformative vehicle for governance reform, private sector engagement, and economic inclusion.

She also announced that the Lagos State export readiness programme, a six-week training for MSMEs, would kick off on July 2, 2025, in partnership with Afreximbank, while the Lagos Corporate Assembly, tagged BOS Meets With Lagos Business Community, would also be held in July.

Director-General, PEBEC, Zahrah Mustapha Audu, said that Lagos State’s policies and the partnership between the states and PEBEC would enable the Federal Government and stakeholders to adapt, enhance and strengthen the regulatory environment, particularly through the SABER programme.

IN the same vein, Ekiti State Government has pledged to remove road and power infrastructure barriers considered as two major hindrances to ease of doing business, while acknowledging their critical roles in attracting investors.

The state Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who spoke, yesterday, in Ado-Ekiti during the second quarter report of the Ease of Doing Business Council (EoDB), said his administration would focus on removing every barrier hindering the ease of doing business in the state by implementing policies that would enhance ease of access for investors.

The governor also gave the assurance that his government would address the challenges with various efforts aimed at improving the electricity supply and upgrading road networks across the state.

IN another development, a renewed commitment to maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health was declared, yesterday, as the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, officially flagged off the first round of the bi-yearly Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health Plus Nutrition Week in the state at the Alimosho Local Council Secretariat.

Sanwo-Olu, while addressing healthcare workers, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and development partners, represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat, stressed the significance of the Week as a critical intervention to empower citizens.

She, however, expressed gratitude to the people of Alimosho for hosting the flag-off event, reiterating the state’s pioneering role in the MNCH+N week, which has now become a national programme since its inception in 2010.

Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, described the flag-off as symbolic and strategic, noting that the Week has historically improved health-seeking behaviour among residents while enhancing the state’s maternal and child health indices.
