The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has alerted parents across the country to a growing trend involving hard drugs disguised as sweets, chocolates, and other snacks often found in children’s bags and pockets.
The warning was issued on Sunday through a public advisory by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, who shared images of the deceptive drug-laced items on his official account on X (formerly Twitter).
Photographs released by the NDLEA showed various confectionery items seized during enforcement actions, with the agency cautioning that the appearance of these drug-laced products is deliberately designed to appeal to children and teenagers.
“Parents, please pay attention to those substances that look like sweet, chocolate, candy, or biscuit in the pockets and bags of your children,” Babafemi wrote. “They come in colourful & attractive wraps & names, but they’re destiny destroyers.
“Attached pictures are some of such recovered from two young men at the local wing of Maiduguri airport by @ndlea_nigeria officers two days ago #IntentionalParenting.”
No specific location or quantity of the seizures was disclosed in the latest warning, but the NDLEA emphasised that the trend poses a serious risk to public health and child safety.
